Education:
akim funk buddha The Department of Urban Affairs aspires to assimilate the elements of urban culture into mainstream society through education. The Funk Buddha defition of urban culure dosn’t just mean hip-hop but the reconnection of hip-hop roots with world traditions from Africa, Asia and Latin America. Collaboration of expressive styles from throat-singing, beat-boxing, classical music to aerial dance and martial arts make up the extensive realms of Akim’s urban environment. Akim runs innovative workshops to spread this flow. Theatrical and visualization exercises teach students of all ages the importance of listening, stillness, and focus to inspire creative intuition and bridge the gap between ages, classes and cultures. Teachers are also trained how to incorporate these aesthetic methods into their classrooms.

Most of these workshops are funded by low-budget art programs on the
brink of cancellation. As operating director, Akim launches
the department of Urban Affairs to raise much needed funds to keep these
programs alive. Contributions made (all 100% tax-deductible) will go
towards:
  • Youth Upliftment
  • Teaching of the meditative elements of music, dance and theater
  • Performance that breaks down cultural barriers and opens up cultural parallels
