Balkan
Beat Box Debut Album
|
The
Balkan
Beat Box was formed in 2003 and is spearheaded
by Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat. This performance-meets-dance
party generates a whirlpool of ecstatic energy.
The Balkan Beat Box digs into the new fresh possibilities
of electronic music mixed with folk music from North
Africa, Israel, the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
The Balkan Beat Box views Jewish music with fresh
eyes: as a continuing cultural dialogue. The dialogue
can take the form of a clash of cultures, and sometimes
it is the natural progression of many young artists'
Diaspora experience. At other times it is Israeli
with all the music that lives there - Arabic, Sephardic,
Hassidic – a true melting pot with never-ending
sources of inspiration.
Habama JDub
Records will release BBB’s long awaited
eponymous debut this fall. This is their only US
show this summer!

Akim
Funk Buddha returns from a month-long tour in
Bali with fresh mental marinations and creative
inspirations, ready to hit the stages, streets and
soundboards of New York City just in time for his
birthday! Please join Akim and friends for this
birthday/ urban expression celebration, presented
by Projectile Arts Department
of Urban Affairs and Sozo
Media.
Funk Buddha’s past show at
The
Blue Note consisted of him freestyling with
a sitar player (Daisy Paradi), body-balancing with
an opera singer (El Raka) and moderating a battle
between drummer, Swiss Chris and Japanese tap dancer.
One can only expect the unexpected with Akim Funk
Buddha, hip hop mc and story-teller infused by Asian,
African and Latin American influences in dance,
art and music.
Akim will also be performing at
Central
Park’s Summer Stage with Bill
T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in "Another
Evening", 8:30PM Friday 22 July 2005, just
hours before The Blue Note show, so make it a night
of Funk Buddha!

WMD:
Weapons of Mass Deception focuses on
how the media shaped the people's views of the Iraq
War through their intense coverage from the war's
inception through February 2004. The film examines
provocative theories such as the Pentagon's involvement
in media messages, how new methods such as satellites
and embedded journalists affected media coverage,
and the competition between media outlets.
Followed by Q&A with writer/director
Danny Schechter
